This is a variation on a classic. The man with no feet is repulsed by the man with no legsBen is so disgusted with Jack that he tells the truth without being forced to do so. (the other incidence is Dr Linus -- Napoleon at Elba). Ben is telling Jack: "Look, you do not have faith. You are not Sawyer who finds it over the ocean. You are nothing. You doubt not because you are brave and accept the final step of death. You are not like Thomas who must touch Jesus because Thomas believes that death is final. You, Jack, are such a fool that you do not believe in anything. You cannot have faith because you are empty. You are this bigtime spinal surgeon who balks at operating. Your terrible bedside manner is the result of having no personality." This is Jack's constant problem. Here is a space for a man who can do womderful things. But through six seasons, the space remains vacant. if Jack is jacob's candidate, Jacob may find himself in "Waiting for Godot", Godot does not appear.
